Meet Jamella

Jamella is an environmentalist and mentor with a passion for sustainable development, youth empowerment, and poetry. She specialises in integrating nature, gender equality and traditional knowledge across international climate policy and adaptation.

Jamella has always had a love for science and storytelling from a young age. Coming from a sheltered upbringing, freedom of choice was a foreign concept to her until she decided to take full ownership of her life and spread her wings.

After graduating with a B.Sc. in Chemistry (major) and Creative Writing & Literature (minor) from SUNY Stony Brook, she came across documentaries, such as Cowspiracy and The True Cost, that conjured an unwavering interest in climate change and the need to pivot her career path towards a different direction.

Jamella went on to earn a M.A. in Environment, Development, and Peace with a specialisation in Climate Change Policy from the University for Peace. Through trial and error, risk-taking and with sheer determination, she attained opportunities out of her wildest dreams like a summer school placement at the United Nations University Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (UNU-CRIS) in Belgium, a fully funded internship at the Green Climate Fund before moving on to the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Having accumulated a wealth of international experience that has shaped her character, morale, and work ethic, Jamella is devoted to helping young girls and women find their voice, explore their desires, and live in their truth.

Born and raised in Guyana, Jamella has lived in the U.S.A., Costa Rica, Barbados, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
